On January 19, 2018 the Centre of Medical Simulation hosted Prof. Giulio Tavarnesi and Tino Cennamo, VPL Product Specialists of Lifelike, who presented an innovative software used in teaching and learning medicine – Virtual Patient Learning.
The participants of the Conference "Standardized Patient – 1st Polish Experts Meeting” and the Faculty of Medical University of Lublin could learn how to implement the VPL in medical education as a complementary tool to Problem Based Learning method. In VPL students not only learn clinical reasoning from a problem or a case but also simulate a doctor-patient encounter throughout all the stages of a diagnostic process and therapeutic decision-making. What is more, virtual patients, played by professional actors of different nationalities and etnical backgrounds, trained to simulate variable moods, attitudes and emotional responses through verbal and non-verbal communication, make the training more lifelike and help students to develop non-technical skills.
